Rules of the Road
What you need to know before hitting the streets with your Tidal Wave Golf Cart
Whether you’re headed to the beach or out to dinner, it’s important to understand how low-speed vehicles (LSVs) operate under Florida law—and what’s expected of you as a renter. Driving a golf cart on public roads comes with real responsibilities, so please take a moment to review the key safety and legal guidelines before your rental begins.
Street Legal & LSV Regulations
All of our golf carts are registered Low-Speed Vehicles (LSVs) and are fully street legal. That means:
- You may drive on public roads with a posted speed limit of 35 mph or less
- You may not drive on sidewalks, bike paths, dunes, trails, or the beach
- Carts must obey all standard traffic laws, just like a regular car
- All passengers must be properly seated with seatbelts while the cart is moving
- Car seats and booster seats are required if your child would need one in a normal vehicle
- Failure to follow LSV laws may result in tickets or loss of cart privileges.
Driving Rules & Responsibilities
Golf carts are motor vehicles under Florida law. That means:
- No drinking and driving
- No texting or handheld device use while driving
- No more passengers than seatbelts (we offer both 4-passenger and 6-passenger carts)
- No standing while the cart is in motion
- No towing or hauling trailers, bikes, etc.
- Only approved drivers may operate the cart.
